Helpful Tips (3) – Birthday Edition

The polite response to “Happy Birthday” is “Thank you, that is nice/ sweet/ considerate of you”.

Because you know what, it IS nice, sweet, and considerate of me, that I did not only see it was your birthday when it popped up on my facebook page, I kept it in my mind, and I, actually, told you!

“Oh, actually it is not until tomorrow/ two days/ next week….etc. but thank you anyway”…

No..! I am sorry!!! what was I thinking? How about you give me the exact time when you were born, so I can make sure to add you to my to-do-list, and call you to say “Happy Birthday” on the exact right moment.

You see, this might come as a shock, but as much as I like you and that we are friends (or facebook friends), but you don’t really rank high in my priorities list (you are not even there). So, be grateful that I got it right within a plus-minus week range from the correct date.

This is like when someone, who does not owe you money, writes you a check….and how do you respond: “Date it for a day and a half from now, I don’t need it today”…!

No seriously, I am trying to be nice here, and you make me feel “wrong”. I don’t like to be wrong. No one likes to be wrong, especially when I am going out of my way to be nice! Why would you do that?

Take the check, smile, and be grateful. Deposit the check in your bank account, and use it whenever you feel like.

Nothing personal!  : )

Cycles of China

My love to China goes in cycles. Currently, I feel like “those days of the month” when I am on the lower end, and there is no bright, yellow, big moon.

In China, winters (5 months) have the dry cold desert wind that goes into my bones sucking all the energy out of me. Summers (5 months) are Read the rest of this entry »

Random… Mistakes & Fruits !

Mistakes

“Never give up your right to be wrong….” said the author, Dr. David M. Burns. Each of us has the right to make whatever mistake we want, one time (unless it is fatal, of course). Whether we choose to make it or choose to watch others make it, that is up to us. Personally, I totally understand the desire to touch flames. What I do not tolerate, is the desire to touch flames “again”. Making a mistake once is totally acceptable by my standards. Making the same mistake for the second time is mere stupidity. However, an important exception here, “Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.”

Like falling for you.

Fruit Breaks

In the spirit of public policies, we are instituting a new policy… no more cigarette breaks. Let’s all have Fruit Breaks.

I understand, some might not like Fruits, such as a favorite comedian of mine, Dylan Moran, as he thinks fruits are “God’s way of showing off… look at all the colors I know”. But we need to admit, when we see fruits laying around, all fresh, juicy, and colorful, we eat them. From now on, snacks offered at meetings will consist of a variety of bite-size pieces of colorful (like M&Ms) fruits. Keep toothpicks or forks around to make it easy to handle (no one wants to continue to the meeting with sticky hands), and no fruit with strong smell (unfortunate for the oranges! well, unless you are wearing a matching fragrance!).

Stop Trying to Save the Earth

So what? The ice is melting, and pieces of contents are sinking. The temperature is rising, and polar bears are dying. We are all going to die. So what? As if it did not happen before!

I call it turn over.

It is Mother Nature’s way of cleaning its closets. We, arrogant humans, go in her house, mess up things, and leave. Of course, she asks us to clean up our mess, first by strong storms, then by floods, quacks, rising temperature, monstrous hurricanes. But we, again being arrogant and stupid, won’t clean the mess. So she throws us out.

Only the fittest will survive (go back to Darwin’s theory). Ice age happened before, and we still see all these creatures. Some of us, humans, also survived. Maybe this was one of the mistakes that are too much fun to only make once. Now we are being kicked out again. And we are waiting to see who will be freeze-resistant! I say we stop all our claims of saving the earth. All I want to wish for, is that whoever survives cleans up their mess next time!

Or no, a better idea… Let’s stop all investments in climate research, invest more in weapons of mass destruction (because we need to defend ourselves – against the new ice age), and kill each other. Oh no wait… we are not actually investing in environmental research… we are only doing mass destruction!

Maybe Mother Nature is right!

A Week Off…. of You

I’ve decided to take a week off, of you. I would be okay with even less than a week, maybe just a few days… just the weekend. Would you please not-pass by my mind? or not be in my daydreams when I wake up?
